Frequently Asked Questions

What is Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease?

A score from 0–100 rating how easy a text is to read. 60–70 is plain English. Below 30 is very difficult (academic/legal). Above 90 is very easy (children's books).

What is the Gunning Fog Index?

An estimate of years of formal education needed to understand the text. A score of 12 means a high-school graduate level. Most business writing targets a score of 10–12.

How accurate is the syllable count?

Syllable counting uses a vowel-group heuristic which works well for common English words. Proper nouns, abbreviations, and non-English words may be counted inaccurately.
