Frequently Asked Questions
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 20 PDF files per merge operation. Each file can be up to 100 MB. If you have more files, merge them in two batches and then merge the results.
Are bookmarks and hyperlinks preserved?
All page content — text, images, and vector graphics — is preserved exactly. Existing hyperlinks within the PDFs are kept. PDF bookmarks (outline/navigation trees) from the individual files are not automatically merged into the combined document.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
No. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first using the Unlock PDF tool. Once the password is removed, you can merge them normally.
Will the file size of the merged PDF equal the sum of the parts?
Approximately, yes. pdf-lib concatenates the content streams, so there is no additional compression on merge. Run the result through Compress PDF if you want to reduce the final size.
Is my data safe?
All merging happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files are never sent to any server and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
